Groupe Energies Renouvelables, Environnement et Solidarités in Cambodia (GERES Cambodia) is one branch of GERES, established in 1976 in Marseille, France. The activities of GERES Cambodia are an extension of earlier development programs. These programs included the first GERES fisheries project in Cambodia in 1994 and Phases I & II of the Cambodia Fuelwood Saving Project (CFSP) from 1997-2006.
CFSP started in 1997 out of the need for coordinated action on wood energy policy. Work began in Kompong Chhnang Province and studied the technological and socio-economic issues surrounding wood energy.
CFSP seeks to collaborate widely with other organizations involved in the wood energy sector to bring about coordinated action and work towards a national wood energy policy. This project can be viewed from a link on the home page.
GERES Cambodia is engaged in a wide range of research and training activities to reduce the consumption of woodfuel in Cambodia through use of efficient cooking technologies and alternative biomass fuels.
Main themes of all GERES Cambodia projects include:
- Sustainable Development
- Poverty Alleviation
- Environmental Preservation
- Application of renewable energy technologies for household and small-scale industry use
VISION
GERES Cambodia endeavors to enhance the sustainability of on-going renewable energy services. The fundamental aims are to contribute to preserving the environment and improving the living condition of the Cambodian people. These aims are achieved by reducing fuelwood consumption, emissions of greenhouse and other hazardous gases, expenses for energy, and the negative impacts of household energy utilization on women.
QUALITY POLICY
GERES Cambodia commits to providing appropriate technical training services for its staff, development partners and beneficiaries, and to continually reviewing the effectiveness of services rendered.
GERES Cambodia is developing projects in 7 provinces. Projects are designed to serve beneficiaries in both the countryside and urban areas. Beneficiaries include households, entrepreneurs, technicians, and local associations. GERES Cambodia invests in the long-term sustainability of project outcomes by involving stakeholders in the assessment, planning and implementation processes.
