TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION
GERES Cambodia develops and disseminates technologies through the Research & Development and Extension Units. Technology development is based on the results of baseline studies. Once a prototype is created, testing, modification and future field validation are initiated. Should the technology meet the needs of the target beneficiaries, pilot dissemination will ensue. Such projects are developed for charcoal and stove producers, forestry communities, NGOs and government institutions working in the energy sector.
CLIMATE CHANGE
GERES Cambodia is part of the international effort to transfer emissions-reducing technologies to least developed countries (LDCs). Use of these technologies not only promotes sustainable development but enhances their ability to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change. The climate change unit aims to raise awareness, provide assistance to stakeholders in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and encourage carbon offsetting through credible projects.
RESEARCH
The Study and Policy Unit at GERES Cambodia conducts research that forms the foundation of further program development. Survey and study results inform the direction of new strategies for energy efficiency and renewable fuel development. Studies include experimentation with solar thermal energy, cooking technologies, biofuels, biomass fuel development and social forestry. The studies are also used as a basis for policy development.
